Since it’s been Hot Pie Summer around here, I decided to take a quick break from pie to work on a baking problem that popped up earlier this year. I was baking cookies to donate and decided to do some chocolate chip cookies. My standard chocolate chip cookie has always been the Nestle Tollhouse recipe. I made them and they were…fine. And really, who wants a just fine chocolate chip cookie?
I’d been looking at recipes, trying to figure out which to try first, and finally, last night, after a stressful day dealing with a sick cat, I decided to make Cloudy Kitchen’s Olive Oil Chocolate Chip Cookie. It’s the first recipe of hers I’ve made and it was really excellent. Besides the recipe sounding really good, I like that it was a small batch. They also came together really quickly.

Although, now that they’re baked, it’s not that small of a batch. It made ten very gigantic cookies (Using a 3 tbsp scoop). If I used my normal scoop, I think I would have had close to two dozen cookies. I used a Cadbury dark chocolate and a Cadbury milk chocolate bar for the chunks. I also can’t get over the feeling that these need nuts in them.
Definitely a keeper, but I think I need to try more recipes and not declare the first ones I make my new go-to chocolate chip cookie. If you have a chocolate chip cookie you think I need to try, let me know!
